What is Math Adventure?
Math Adventure is a non-profit organization that uniquely blends puzzles, math, the arts, and learning into a single night of non-competitive, theme-based excitement and teamwork. Our goal is to help kids to build a positive emotional connection with math that starts in elementary school and lasts a lifetime.
Why Does This Work?
It's completely unlike anything else, and it makes math fun in an easy and engaging way, while also helping kids practice skills beyond just math.
Kids don't need to learn anything special to enjoy a Math Adventure - they just use the math they're already learning at school. See sample puzzles.
They learn the value of communication and teamwork as they work in teams of four to solve math problems, unlocking clues at each step that lead to the big finale. See videos of past events.
The rewards they receive along the way help them see the value of their hard work, building a positive emotional connection to math and erasing the anxiety that so many kids feel about math later in life. See reviews from past participants.
Kids who participate bring their excitement for learning and problem-solving back with them to their classrooms.
What Do Kids Do?
Each 2.5-hour event has a theme, some featuring iconic dramas - The Odyssey, King Arthur - with others focusing on original narratives. All are acted out by our staff and the school's volunteers, so that kids feel completely immersed in the theme for the whole event. Kids solve puzzles, which lead to adventures; the answers to those puzzles unlock the adventures, and the adventures unlock more puzzles.
What If I'm Not in Seattle?
We're actually now turning our focus towards creating kits that help schools anywhere to build events at their school. For more, see our Kits page.
